A Very Short History Lesson                                 On July 18, 1925 the 7 year-old
Clara Mortenson made her public pro wrestling debut in a match against her brother
Leo. It was set up by her father Mart who had taught the two to wrestle.    After
more intensive training by her Dad, Clara was billed as Women's World Champion
after brutally defeating Barbara Ware at the still young age of 14. In the following
years Miss Mortenson would wrestle women but mostly men due to the lack of
female wrestlers at that time. In January of 1937, Clara was defeated by Mildred
Burke who was then billed as Women's World Champion. Two weeks latter Burke's
husband Billy Wolfe defeated Clara is a grueling woman vs man match that lasted
over an hour. Just four days after Clara beat Mildred to become a two time
Women's World Champion. On September 1, 1937, Clara wrestled Dolores
Gonzales in San Antonio, Texas. In the heat of the action Miss Gonzales tore the top
of Clara swim suite right off leaving her breasts fully exposed to the large crowd.
And the rest is history. retropat77
